Overview:

Bachelor of Theology (BTh)

The Bachelor of Theology (BTh) program at Trinity Theological Seminary is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in biblical studies, theology, and practical ministry skills. This program equips students for effective leadership and service in various ministry contexts, including local churches, missions, and para-church organizations.

 

Program Structure:

The BTh program typically spans three or four years of full-time study, depending on the level of entry. Students engage in a comprehensive curriculum that covers a wide range of theological subjects, including

Biblical Studies: Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Languages Theology: Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, Contemporary Theology Ministry: Homiletics, Pastoral Care, Church Administration, Evangelism Practical Experience: Field Education, Internships, Ministry Practicum

Course Requirements:

Depending on the level of entry into the program, students may take between 24 and 48 courses to graduate with a Bachelor of Theology degree. These courses encompass foundational theological disciplines and specialized areas of study, providing students with a well-rounded education in theology and ministry.

Credits Requirements:

The Bachelor of Theology program currently requires a range of 120 to 144 credits to complete. Students must complete a specified number of credit hours in theology-specific courses, the study of religions in general, non-theology and non-religion courses, and free electives. This ensures a comprehensive education that balances theological depth with breadth of knowledge.

Admissions Requirements:

To be eligible for admission into the BTh program, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:

Six (6) Senior Secondary or High School Certificate Examination (SSCE/WASCE) passes, including 3 core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Social Studies/Science) and 3 electives, with an aggregate of 24 or better.

Three “A” Level passes and six (6) “O” Level credits (including English and mathematics) or their equivalent, with an aggregate of 36 or better.

Successful completion of a Diploma in Theology from an accredited institution, with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) aggregate of 3.0 or higher, enabling entry into a 2-year Bachelor of Theology program.

Application Process:

Application forms for the BTh program are available throughout the year. Prospective students must obtain application forms from the Office of the Academic Dean of the Seminary and submit completed forms on or before March 31 of each year. International students must satisfy equivalent requirements, and special interviews may be conducted for them before admission.

Master of Divinity (MDiv)

Program Overview

Trinity Theological Seminary offers a comprehensive Master of Divinity (MDiv) program designed to prepare students for effective ministry leadership in diverse contexts. Rooted in a strong foundation of biblical, theological, and practical training, this three-year program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual formation necessary for faithful and effective service in the Church and the world.

Program Structure

The Master of Divinity program is structured to provide students with a holistic education that integrates rigorous academic study, research, practical training, and spiritual formation. The program consists of four key components:

 Core Courses: Students will engage in a rigorous academic curriculum covering various disciplines, including Bible, theology, history, ethics, and practical theology. These core courses provide students with a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills essential for ministry leadership.

 Research Component: As part of the program, students will undertake a substantial research project known as the Project Work. This project, worth 6 credit hours, involves independent research and writing on a topic of the student’s choosing, under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.

 Practical Training: Students will participate in practical training experiences, including two long vacation Practical Attachment (Practum) sessions, designed to provide hands-on ministry experience and enhance practical skills development.

 Semester-by-Semester Schedule: The program is structured over three academic years (six semesters), with a maximum course load of 21 credit hours per semester. Each semester, students will take courses from various categories, including general prerequisites, Bible, history and missions, systematic theology, Christian ethics and philosophy, study of religions, practical theology, and free electives.

 

Entry requirements for admission of students:

 The minimum qualifications of candidates for the MDiv degree shall be a minimum of a good first degree (second class or better) or higher degrees in any field of study from a recognized accredited tertiary institution. All persons seeking admission into this program must submit completed application forms (a copy of which can be obtained from the TTS General Office) on or before March 31 to be considered for admission in September of the same year.

 Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the Master of Divinity program, students must fulfill the following requirements:

 All Master of Divinity students require 108 credit hours of taught courses, plus ten (10) credit hours of practicum and six (6) credits of project work, making a total of 134 credit hours to graduate.

Diploma in Theology

Overview

Trinity Theological Seminary offers a comprehensive Diploma in Theology program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary for effective ministry in diverse contexts. Rooted in a rich tradition of Christian scholarship and practice, our program integrates rigorous academic study with practical ministry training to prepare graduates for leadership roles in churches, ministries, and other Christian organizations.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Diploma in Theology program, students will demonstrate a solid understanding of biblical texts: Students will have a comprehensive knowledge of both the Old and New Testaments, including key themes, historical contexts, and theological concepts.

 Apply critical thinking skills to theological issues: Students will be able to analyze and evaluate theological concepts, arguments, and interpretations using sound reasoning and critical thinking skills.

 Communicate effectively: Students will develop strong oral and written communication skills, enabling them to articulate complex theological ideas clearly and persuasively in various contexts.

 Integrate theory and practice: Students will integrate theoretical knowledge with practical ministry skills, demonstrating an ability to apply theological insights to real-world ministry situations. 

Demonstrate cultural sensitivity: Students will develop an awareness of cultural diversity and sensitivity to the needs and perspectives of diverse communities, enabling them to engage in cross-cultural ministry effectively.

Exhibit ethical leadership: Students will demonstrate ethical leadership qualities, including integrity, compassion, and a commitment to social justice, in their ministry practice.

Engage in lifelong learning: Students will cultivate a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth, continuing to deepen their theological understanding and ministry skills throughout their careers.

Degree Requirements

To earn a diploma in theology from Trinity Theological Seminary, students must complete a minimum of 72 credit hours of coursework, including core courses in Bible, theology, pastoral ministry, ethics, and missions, as well as elective courses in specialized areas of study. In addition to academic coursework, students are required to participate in practical ministry experiences and engage in reflective practices to integrate theory and practice. Students must also meet specific entry requirements for admission, including a grade of C6 or better in three core subjects in the West Africa Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or equivalent qualifications. Graduation requirements include satisfactory completion of all coursework, meeting minimum GPA requirements, and fulfilling any additional program-specific requirements as determined by the faculty. Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will be awarded a Diploma in Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary.
